HOW DOES MEDICARE WORK?

Original Medicare

The Original Medicare Plan is a fee-for-service plan managed by the Federal Government. In general, with the Original Medicare Plan: 

• You use your red, white, and blue Medicare card when you get health care.
• You can go to any doctor or supplier that accepts Medicare and is accepting new Medicare patients, or to any hospital or other facility.
• You pay a set amount for your health care (a deductible) before Medicare pays its part. Then, *Medicare pays its share, and you pay your share (your coinsurance or copayment) for covered services and supplies (unless you have a Medigap policy or other supplemental insurance that may pay for these costs.)

HOW MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS WORK?

• You may have a Medigap policy or other supplemental coverage that may pay deductibles, coinsurance, or other costs that aren’t covered by the Original Medicare Plan. 
• Medigap policies or supplements provide choices of plans to supplement your medicare plan.
• Depending on your needs you can choose from Plan A to Plan L
• Most Insurance Companies only offer a select few of the plan obtions available.
• When choosing a Medicare Supplement it's important you chose the right plan from the start.
• Open enrollement period six months before age 65 and six months after turning 65. During open enrollment current health conditions are not rated. After the enrollement period health conditions can be rated and the cost of the supplement could increase significantly.
• Your local Dept of Health and Human Services provides a FREE Guide to health insurance for people with medicare. It's important that you read this guide before purchasing a medigap supplement policy.
